MUSICAL SONRISAS Y LAGRIMAS 2026

Salzburg, 1938. Maria Rainer is a young novice at Nonnberf Abbey whose free spirit and passion for music clash with the congregation’s strict rules. Her constant escapades into the nearby mountains cause consternation amongst the other nuns, who wonder whether Maria is destined to become one of them.

To help her find her way, the Mother Abbess decides to send Maria to serve as governess to the seven children of Captain Georg von Trapp, a former officer in the Austro-Hungarian navy who has recently been widowed. Upon arriving at her new home, Maria discovers that the Captain has become a withdrawn man since his wife’s death and that the children are being brought up under strict discipline, with no room for fun.

On arriving at her new home, Maria discovers that the Captain has imposed strict discipline in his household, leaving little room for fun. However, with her infectious cheerfulness and her passion for music, Maria manages to win the children’s hearts, filling the house with laughter, songs and love; but she also begins to harbour feelings for the Captain that make her doubt her future at the abbey. Meanwhile, the situation in the country is becoming increasingly complicated due to the rise of Nazism and the imminent annexation of Austria by the Third Reich.
