2016-12-18

Feria de Zaragoza is celebrating once again. The Agrifood publishing group, with leading publications in the sector such as Qcom.es, Wikispanishfood.com, and Euroganaderia.eu, has awarded Feria de Zaragoza for its firm and decisive commitment to the agri-food sector.

At a gala held in Madrid and presided over by the Minister of Agriculture, Food and the Environment, Isabel García Tejerina, the president of Feria de Zaragoza, Manuel Teruel, emphasized the importance of the primary sector for this institution, stating that it is "what feeds us, provides us with security, and generates wealth." "The agri-food sector is key for Feria de Zaragoza. For years it has shaped our past and is central to our present. We are confident that it will be one of our cornerstones for the future," Teruel stressed, adding that it is a market "fundamental for development." The sixth edition of these awards recognized the work of companies and institutions that, within their respective fields, dedicate their efforts to promoting agri-food production, its processes, and the people who carry them out in a sustainable and environmentally responsible manner.

These awards, aimed at professionals in the agri-food sector, highlight the importance of agri-food production and its significant contribution to the Spanish economy. Feria de Zaragoza was recognized for "its commitment to the agri-food sector in the development of its business and, specifically, for organizing the international trade fairs FIMA, ENOMAQ, and FIGAN," as stated at the event. The trade fair organization received the Euroganadería Award, presented for the first time this year. According to Isabel García Tejerina, the primary sector represents Spain's leading industrial sector, one of "great importance" that "often does not receive sufficient recognition." According to the Minister of Agriculture, the award-winning companies are “the best example of a great sector, one we can be proud of, and which has a very promising future.”

The awards have twelve categories, and among the distinguished companies, MasterChef, the popular TVE cooking reality show, received an award for bringing the importance of cooking to millions of homes and for its work promoting agri-food products. In addition to Feria de Zaragoza, the following were also recognized: the Málaga Provincial Council, Nestlé, Pastores Grupo Cooperativo, the Spanish National Association of Meat Industries (ANICE), and the Yllera Group. Olive Oils from Spain, El Corte Inglés, Paradores de Turismo de España, Cárnicas Iglesias, and Chocolates Valor were also awarded.

The awards ceremony was also attended by the Executive Director of the Spanish Agency for Consumer Affairs, Food Safety and Nutrition (AECOSAN), Teresa Robledo; the Secretary General for Agriculture of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment (MAGRAMA), Carlos Cabanas; the Director General of the Food Industry of MAGRAMA, Fernando Burgaz; and various members of the Agrifood editorial committee. This initiative highlights the commitment to emphasizing agri-food production, food safety, and its processes of innovation and continuous improvement within a sustainable agri-food chain.
