FIGAN 2027 announces its Innovations and Technological Improvements Competition and its Excellence Award

2026-07-20

The International Livestock Production Fair (FIGAN) has launched its Innovation and Technological Improvement Competition and Excellence Award. With these awards, the event recognizes the achievements of exhibiting companies that invest in R&D&I and acknowledges the excellence of professionals, companies, and initiatives that contribute to the success of the livestock sector.

Recognition of Results and Investment in R&D&I

Innovation is the best strategy for the livestock sector. Therefore, FIGAN 2027 is once again launching its Innovation and Technological Improvement Competition, which recognizes companies that invest in R&D&I to meet the needs of the sector and the market.

The competition awards products and services that stand out for their innovative nature or for incorporating a technological improvement into the sector. To this end, an independent jury of experts will evaluate the applications based on criteria such as practical applicability, advantages related to work performance, improved reliability, cost-effectiveness, ergonomics and safety of human capital and animals, animal health and/or welfare, biosecurity, business management, energy efficiency, and environmental impact.

The competition includes two categories. The Technological Innovation award recognizes products or services that represent a genuine innovation in the functions or procedures of livestock systems and techniques. The Technological Improvement award, on the other hand, recognizes significant and verifiable advances in products or services already present in the national or international market. In both cases, the jury reserves the right to reclassify applications or declare the competition void.

The winning products and services will have a prominent place in the Technological Innovation or Technological Improvement Gallery at FIGAN 2027, a dedicated area within the fair that showcases the talent and investment in the sector. They will also be recognized at an official gala.

Registration Deadline and Requirements

Interested exhibiting companies must register online before November 27, 2026, using a separate form for each product or service presented. Among the requirements, entries must not have been previously exhibited at any agricultural fair in Spain, nor marketed before the March 2025 edition of FIGAN. They must provide documentary evidence of a genuine qualitative advancement, be fully operational before the next edition of FIGAN, and be exhibited during the event. Furthermore, they must comply with current legislation regarding safety, noise emissions, vibrations, and electromagnetic compatibility.

The Jury will meet from December 15, 2026, to review the submitted applications and will reject those that do not meet the requirements. Its decision will be announced on January 14, 2027, and made public on January 29, 2027. The awards ceremony will take place during FIGAN 2027.

Sixth Edition of the Excellence Award

FIGAN 2027 also celebrates the sixth edition of the Excellence Award, a recognition for livestock companies that demonstrate an outstanding level in the development of their business activities. The award values concrete achievements and realities—that is, practical and demonstrable technical advancements—that companies regularly use to improve their operations.

The Award recognizes the overall excellence of livestock companies based on criteria such as the quality and suitability of their housing and facilities, production systems and livestock techniques, the technical and economic management model, traceability, sustainability, environmental management, quality management, and the defense and promotion of animal health and welfare.

Companies or organizations that are visitors or exhibitors at the 2027 edition, have implemented and are operating the business model they are submitting for the Award, and strictly comply with current legislation, are eligible to apply. This award represents recognition granted by a jury of renowned prestige, whose assessment is highly regarded within the sector.

An Independent Jury

The Evaluation Jury will be chaired by Professor Carlos Buxadé Carbó, a full member of the Royal Academy of Doctors of Spain, Professor at the Higher Technical School of Agricultural, Food and Biosystems Engineering (ETSIAAB), and Professor Emeritus at the Polytechnic University of Madrid.

The members of the Jury are Professor Manuel Fondevila Camps, Professor in the Department of Animal Production at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Zaragoza; and Professor Ángel Jiménez Jiménez, Extraordinary Collaborator in the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the Higher Polytechnic School of Humanities.
