The 27th edition of the International Water and Irrigation Exhibition (SMAGUA) continues to solidify its role as a leading event in the water sector and confirm its importance as an essential meeting point for water and irrigation professionals.
The positive atmosphere in the four pavilions (3, 4, 5, and 9) has remained a highlight, with a large number of visitors and a constant flow of business activity filling the event's aisles. With 657 exhibiting brands from 30 countries, SMAGUA is not only a showcase of innovation and trends in the sector, but also a key space for generating synergies and new business relationships that drive the entire water sector's production chain.
Technical Seminar Program
Under the motto "50 years innovating in every drop," SMAGUA brings together experts, companies, and organizations for intensive and dynamic sessions at the Zaragoza Trade Fair, with the aim of addressing the sector's main challenges and seeking innovative solutions.
Today's session began with a presentation by the Ebro River Basin Authority, entitled "Contribution of River Basin Authorities to Social Progress in Spain from the Basin Unit," which assessed the impact of these authorities on social progress and water management in Spain, highlighting their key role in current well-being and their capacity to face future challenges. The Iberian Association for Trenchless Technology (IBSTT), the Technical Association for Waste Management, Urban Cleaning and the Environment (ATEGRUS), TECNOAQUA, the Spanish Association of Water Supply and Sanitation (AEAS), the Spanish Association of Urban Water Service Management Companies (AGA), the Association of Technical and High-Pressure Cleaning (ALTAP), and the Water Club, along with the College of Civil Engineers, also gave presentations throughout the day. All of these sessions have focused on improving water management efficiency, addressing key issues such as European regulations and standards for the integrated water cycle, the modernization and digitalization of agricultural irrigation, and asset management in companies within the water sector. Experts are also sharing strategies to optimize infrastructure and improve resilience to climate and operational challenges.
Internationalization and Trade Missions
Today, SMAGUA 2025 has reinforced its position as an international benchmark in the water sector with the brokerage event, organized by CEOE Aragón and ITA, in collaboration with Feria de Zaragoza and the European Commission. Throughout today and tomorrow, 73 companies from 14 different countries are participating in intensive B2B meetings designed to foster commercial agreements and key technological collaborations that will drive the sector forward.
In parallel, several trade missions are underway, bringing together 38 international delegations from countries such as Argentina, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Lebanon, Morocco, Paraguay, Tunisia, and Uruguay. These meetings are proving to be an excellent opportunity for exhibiting companies to explore new business opportunities, opening doors to emerging markets and expanding their international reach. A day of significant progress and new horizons for SMAGUA.
This year, 2025, SMAGUA celebrates its 50th anniversary with a packed agenda of activities and strategic meetings. The event, which shares space with SPAPER and EXPOFIMER, will hold a commemorative gala at the Water Tower in Zaragoza, where the sector's future challenges and opportunities will be analyzed. It will bring together a number of institutional figures, as well as industry professionals.
