SMAGUA, the International Water, Irrigation, and Environment Exhibition, has launched its call for entries for the Technological Improvements and Innovations Competition for its 2027 edition. The competition recognizes, once again, the R&D&I investment of exhibiting companies and selects products that stand out for their technological contribution, innovative capacity, and performance in meeting market needs.

The Competition is open to all companies exhibiting at SMAGUA 2027 that present equipment, devices, machinery, or systems in operation for the first time at the exhibition and that have been marketed after SMAGUA 2025 (held from March 4 to 6, 2025). The award includes two categories:

• Technological Improvement, which recognizes developments that represent a significant evolution of products already present in the national and international markets.
• Technological Innovation, intended to recognize those products, equipment, or systems that represent a genuine innovation in the functions or procedures of the systems.

In both cases, the Evaluation Committee will assess the practical applicability, advantages related to work performance, improved reliability, cost-effectiveness, ergonomics and safety of human capital, health and/or biosecurity, business management, energy efficiency, and environmental impact of each application.

Interested companies must register online, submitting a form for each product or service. The Committee will meet on November 26, 2026, to review the submitted documentation and reject applications that do not meet the requirements. The decision will be announced on December 17, 2026.

An Independent Jury

The selection of the winning projects will be the responsibility of an external and independent jury, composed of five renowned experts. Its members are:

• Miguel Ángel García Vera. Head of the Hydrological Planning Office of the Ebro River Basin Authority (CHE).
• Ricardo Aliod Sebastián. Professor of Fluid Mechanics at the Higher Polytechnic School of Huesca (University of Zaragoza).
• Adela Hernández Laguna. Head of the Irrigation Engineering Area of ​​Alto Aragón.
• Enrique Cabrera Marcet. Emeritus Professor of Fluid Mechanics at the Polytechnic University of Valencia.
• Oscar Ruiz Lozano. Professor of Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering at the Polytechnic University School of La Almunia (University of Zaragoza).

The 28th edition of SMAGUA will be held from February 16 to 18, 2027, at the Zaragoza Trade Fair, where it will once again bring together leading professionals, companies, and institutions in the sector to present the latest technological innovations and address the major challenges of water management.
