2025-03-06

SMAGUA concludes its 27th edition with an exceptional outcome, reaffirming its leadership as the benchmark event for the water and irrigation sector. With the participation of 25,897 highly qualified professionals, the event stood out for the quality of its attendees, generating an environment conducive to business, networking, and the creation of key synergies for the future of the sector.

Innovation and knowledge were central to this edition, with more than 80 technical sessions and parallel activities led by over 150 experts and attended by more than 5,000 professionals. In this way, SMAGUA consolidates its position as the essential forum for addressing the challenges of the water sector and promoting more efficient and sustainable water management.

Internationalization was another key pillar of this edition. The CEOE (Spanish Confederation of Employers' Organizations) highlighted the success of the B2B event, which facilitated over 400 business meetings between companies from different countries, fostering strategic alliances and new commercial opportunities. Furthermore, the presence of 38 international delegations from emerging markets strengthened the event's global reach and opened new avenues for collaboration within the sector.

The growth of the exhibition space was another key aspect of SMAGUA 2025. The pavilions saw a significant increase in exhibiting companies and a wide array of advanced technology. This edition also saw the return of important brands that had not participated in previous years, reaffirming the event's ability to attract key players in the sector and offer a cutting-edge showcase.

Institutional and association support was also crucial to the success of this edition. The collaboration of key entities such as AEAS-AGA, FEREBRO, ADECAGUA, ASEGRE, ATEGRUS, IBSTT, ALTAP, ZINNAE, AERYD, the Aragonese Water Institute, the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO), and the Government of Aragon, among many others, has been fundamental in consolidating SMAGUA as the leading meeting point for the water and irrigation industry.

Synergies with SPAPER and EXPOFIMER: a boost for the industry

The synergies between SMAGUA, SPAPER, and EXPOFIMER have been another key aspect of this edition. The paper industry, a major water consumer, finds in SMAGUA a strategic ally for the efficient management of water resources, wastewater treatment, and sludge treatment. At the same time, EXPOFIMER provides innovative renewable energy solutions to optimize production processes and reduce environmental impact.

In total, SPAPER welcomed 2,723 visitors, with a high attendance rate shared with SMAGUA, demonstrating the connection between the two sectors. EXPOFIMER, for its part, contributed to the event's dynamism with 4,179 attendees. Together, the three events increased their exhibition space and the number of brands by more than 50%, reinforcing their positioning and appeal to the industry.

A closing focused on sustainability and the future of the water sector

The final day of the SMAGUA 2025 technical sessions was marked by discussions surrounding sustainability and the future of water management. Among the most noteworthy sessions, the one organized by the Ebro Irrigation Federation (FEREBRO) analyzed the hydrological plans for the fourth cycle, while the Spanish Association of Sanitation and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators (AESOE) addressed the key aspects of portable sanitation and water conservation. Likewise, the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE), the Association for the Defense of Water Quality (ADECAGUA), and the Spanish Association of Water Supply and Sanitation – Spanish Association of Urban Water Service Management Companies (AEAS-AGA) provided a forum for discussion on emerging contaminants and drought management.

The event also featured a high-level forum on the protection of groundwater from point source pollution, coordinated by the Association of Companies Managing Waste and Special Resources (ASEGRE), which brought together experts from the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO), the Government of Aragon, and the Ebro River Basin Authority.

SMAGUA thus concludes its 27th edition with great success, demonstrating its leading position in the hydrology and environmental sector. Looking to the future, the Zaragoza Fair is already working on the next edition in 2027, with the aim of continuing to grow and offering a unique space for innovation and business in the world of water.
