SMAGUA, SPAPER and EXPOFIMER return to Feria de Zaragoza

2025-02-26

The Zaragoza Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services hosted today's press conference to present SMAGUA, SPAPER, and EXPOFIMER 2025, three events that will bring together key players in the water, paper, and renewable energy maintenance sectors at the Feria de Zaragoza from March 4 to 6.

Participating in the event were Jorge Villarroya, President of the Feria de Zaragoza; Rogelio Cuairán, General Manager of the Feria de Zaragoza; and Alberto López, Business Development Director, who emphasized the strategic importance of these events and their economic and professional impact on Aragon.

For Jorge Villarroya, President of the Feria de Zaragoza, it is "a true privilege to hold these three events in Zaragoza." He also thanked the Government of Aragon for its collaboration in providing the Water Tower as the venue for one of the most important events of the 27th edition of SMAGUA: its 50th anniversary gala.

Villarroya emphasized that this gala will be “a key moment, bringing together international delegations and authorities in a forum for dialogue and networking. We will also highlight the Water Tower as an emblem of Zaragoza and of our commitment to water as a strategic resource.”

Alberto López explained the synergies between the three events: “The synergies between SMAGUA, SPAPER, and EXPOFIMER are clear. The paper industry is a major consumer of water, making its connection with SMAGUA obvious. Everything related to water conveyance, sludge management, and wastewater treatment is key for paper mills, which are also often located near rivers. Added to this is the importance of sustainability and decarbonization in the sector. Furthermore, both industries also have a natural relationship with EXPOFIMER, as they seek to better manage their resources and minimize their environmental impact through the use of renewable energy.”

Furthermore, he emphasized that: “The most important thing is that we have not only managed to consolidate three trade fairs with their own distinct identities, but also to generate synergies that benefit exhibitors and visitors. There are supplier companies that work in all three sectors, so having the fairs on the same dates is an added value for them. They send specialized technicians in different areas: some come to SMAGUA, others to SPAPER, and others to EXPOFIMER, depending on their role within the company.”

For his part, Rogelio Cuairán highlighted that “SMAGUA’s 50th anniversary complements FIMA’s 60th anniversary, which we celebrated last year, and the 50th anniversary that ENOMAQ will reach in its next edition. These are well-established trade fairs in the city, which reflects the strong support of these sectors for Feria de Zaragoza, the result of many years of work. Consolidating events of this importance for so long is fundamental for Feria de Zaragoza, for the sector, and for Zaragoza and Aragón.”

SMAGUA, SPAPER, and EXPOFIMER in numbers

SMAGUA, the International Water and Irrigation Exhibition, celebrates its 50th anniversary, reaffirming its position as the leading event in the water sector internationally. Celebrating SMAGUA's 50th Anniversary

One of the major milestones of this year's event is the celebration of SMAGUA's 50th anniversary this edition will commemorate the 50th anniversary of SMAGUA, a witness to and participant in the evolution of the water sector over the last five decades. To mark this occasion, Hall 5 will feature a commemorative space showcasing the most important milestones of the event and its impact on the industry.

The highlight will be the commemorative gala on March 5th at the Water Tower in Zaragoza, an event that, in addition to celebrating the past and present of the event, will serve as a forum for discussion on future challenges in water management.
