SMAGUA, the International Water, Irrigation and Environment Exhibition, held its second Organizing Committee yesterday at the Zaragoza Conference Center. A meeting that served to analyze commercial evolution, present the main novelties and share the strategic lines of the event, which will take place from February 16 to 18, 2027 at Feria de Zaragoza.

The meeting was marked by the formalization of the incorporation of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge of the Government of Spain. In this session, the ministerial representation was carried out by Francisco Javier Sánchez Martínez, Deputy Director General of Water Protection and Risk Management.

The committee, chaired by the Ebro Hydrographic Confederation, has received in this edition the incorporation of SIMOP and Aqua España, joining the entities already members.

Very positive commercial evolution

One of the aspects addressed has been the good commercial evolution that SMAGUA 2027 is registering. As of today, the event brings together 82% of the direct exhibitors of 2025 and 19% of new participating companies. At the international level, in addition to the grouped participations already confirmed from China and Türkiye, business delegations from Denmark and Switzerland will join.

In terms of surface area, SMAGUA 2027 has already reached 91% of that occupied in 2025, with an average surface area requested per exhibitor that has grown by 8%. The 34,378 gross m² in 2025 are already covered with the current contracting, so the use of pavilions 3, 4, 9, 5 and part of 6 is planned to accommodate the foreseeable growth.

A new sectorization adapted to the current market reality

During recent years, technological evolution has generated an increasingly broader sector catalog. For this reason, the SMAGUA organization has carried out an update that has allowed us to simplify the structure, eliminate categories and create new subsectors. The new classification will be articulated around nine large areas: water collection, transportation and storage; treatment and reuse of water and wastewater; instrumentation, analysis and automation; irrigation; environment; energy environment; engineering and service companies; other equipment and components; and associations, institutions and technical press.

International missions

SMAGUA 2027 will once again host the Brokerage Event, an initiative framed in the European Commission's policy to promote business cooperation through the Enterprise Europe Network. Organized by the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE) Aragon and the Technological Institute of Aragon, in collaboration with Feria de Zaragoza and the European Commission, this meeting will offer companies in the sector an opportunity to meet new partners and explore avenues for commercial collaboration. On the other hand, SMAGUA 2027 will once again have its international missions, which will welcome importers, distributors and prescribers from more than 26 countries.

New Talent Day

Committed to the present and future of the water sector, SMAGUA works to attract new generations and show them the professional opportunities offered by this attractive industry. Along these lines, on Thursday, February 18, 2027, the New Talent Day will be held, aimed at 4th year ESO and Vocational Training students, with special attention to profiles in the technical and industrial branch and the chemical area. The day will start with a welcome presentation, followed by guided routes through the event in which collaborating exhibitors will present their products, services and the professional profiles they demand.

In parallel, SMAGUA will promote visits to universities, through transportation subsidies and group passes, thus facilitating their travel.

New website, new app and new platform for exhibitors

The organization continues working to improve the exhibitor experience through a new digital platform. Along with this, a new mobile application will allow access to updated information in real time, consult interactive plans of the venue, receive personalized notifications and use the platform in several languages.

Another novelty is the new website whose redesign includes improvements in usability and navigation, a more scalable architecture prepared for the growth of the event, an optimized user experience and greater personalization of content. In this sense, a new digital catalog will be added aimed at maximizing the visibility of exhibitors and facilitating information consultation.

Technical conferences, commercial presentations and awards

The 2027 edition will once again have an extensive program of technical conferences and parallel activities promoted by associations and entities. These activities will address the main challenges of the sector, fome promoting debate and the dissemination of knowledge.

Similarly, the trade presentation room in Hall 9 will once again be available to exhibiting companies for presenting their services and solutions. Regarding awards and recognitions, SMAGUA 2027 will maintain the format of the last edition, with the categories of Innovations and Technological Improvements. All details will be announced in upcoming communications and on the official website of the event.

New Stands

The show will incorporate new turnkey stand designs, conceived to offer solutions better suited to the needs of each exhibitor. The proposal includes different features, as well as direct advice from the supplier to achieve the desired image, thus improving personalization and brand presence at the venue.

Once again, SMAGUA 2027 will be held concurrently with SPAPER, the International Exhibition of Machinery and Equipment for Pulp, Paper and Board, with the aim of boosting business opportunities. With a clear commitment to internationalization and fostering talent, SMAGUA is preparing to once again become a leading force in the water sector. The next edition will be held from February 16 to 18, 2027, at the Feria de Zaragoza.
