SMOPYC 2026 closes its 20th edition marked by a high volume of business

2026-04-18

The 20th edition of SMOPYC (International Trade Fair for Public Works, Construction and Mining Machinery), held at Feria de Zaragoza, closed its doors today after four days of intense activity.

The event brought together 1,055 exhibiting brands, of which 571 were Spanish, 46 from Aragon, and 484 from 32 different countries. In addition, there were 445 direct exhibitors and 610 indirect exhibitors, occupying a total exhibition area of 107,383 square meters, and attracting 62,124 professional visitors.

These figures reflect significant growth compared to the 2023 edition. This year, SMOPYC recorded increases of 28.6% in direct exhibitors, 26.3% in exhibition space, and 23.19% in visitors.

But beyond the figures and percentages, what defined this edition was the quality of activity within the exhibition halls. The focus on sustainability, digitalization, and operational efficiency attracted a highly qualified audience, which valued the event as an ideal environment for generating business opportunities.

Generational renewal and the future of the sector

The closing day focused on the round table “The Future of Construction: Talent, Innovation and Transformation,” held in Hall 9 and featuring content creators @sofientreobras, @mecanicadetresoctavos, @alvarolopezformador, and @miner_trece.

Moderated by Arancha Morquecho, Head of the Industrial Area at Feria de Zaragoza, the session addressed one of the sector’s major challenges: the lack of generational continuity. In a dynamic format, the discussion highlighted how new generations are helping to renew the industry’s image and open new entry pathways, connecting with profiles that had previously been distant from the construction sector.

The Innovation Pavilion, a key highlight of the edition

Throughout the four days, the Innovation Pavilion was one of the most visited spaces. Located in Hall 9 and promoted by ANMOPYC, the Aragon Institute of Technology (ITA), the Spanish Construction Technology Platform (PTEC), and FENAEX, this space brought the industry closer to new generations.

Among its main highlights was the 2nd Competition of Future Professionals in Machinery and Lifting Equipment, which brought together vocational training students from across Spain in practical challenges assessed by industry professionals.

The pavilion also hosted the Innovation SMOPYC Talks, a technical forum where experts and professionals discussed the major challenges facing the industry, such as machinery and process digitalization, connectivity, new services, as well as decarbonization and new energy sources.

Next edition: April 2029

SMOPYC 2026 thus closes its 20th edition, reaffirming its role as an essential event for the industry, and looks ahead to its next edition, which will take place from 18 to 21 April 2029.
